Game Preview: Giants (5-7) at Miami (5-7)

A pair of 5-7 team that are amazingly enough both very much in the playoff hunt do battle at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Monday night as the Giants take on the Dolphins. Big Blue could/should be arguably 9-3 and their propensity to give up fourth quarter leads with poor time management has been well documented. Miami showed signs of life after firing Joe Philbin after their London debacle but the Fish have reverted back to their nonchalant ways in dropping four of its last six. The line opened at pick with money coming in on the G-men who are now -1.5 point favorites. The total is down half a click to 46 1/2. It will be a hot humid night in South Beach with the temperature at kickoff in the mid-80s.

The Giants have struggled on offense and defense all year long yet were in a position to win several games blowing a surreal five fourth quarter leads. The No.29th ranked defense is weak on personnel and the offense is unable to run the ball and the offense has been hindered by inexplicable play calling and the bad Eli rearing his head at the most inopportune of times. We saw another critical red zone pick in the loss to the Jets last week. Regardless of the whether or not the Giants make the playoffs, Tom Coughlin is likely done at the end of the year.

If there was ever a team that looked like it was simply playing out the string, it’s the Miami Dolphins. Dan Campbell has done nothing for that would merit removing his interim head coach tag and this is a team that can expect full scale changes in the off-season. The Fish ran the ball a little bit last week under a new OC but Ryan Tannehill was 9-for 19 for just 89 yards albeit in a 15-13 win over the crippled Baltimore Ravens. The defense, which was supposed to be the team’s best unit after a bunch of high priced free agent signings, is in the bottom third of virtually every meaningful metric and is No.25 in the league in total defense.

A tough tough game to figure. Despite their inability to finish a game, the Giants are tied for the lead in the NFC East and have the best player on the field in Odell Beckham Jr. Miami has shown nothing and is just 1-4 ATS at home and their last two wins have come by a combined three points. NFC East road favorites are 5-8 ATS this year whole AFC East home dogs are just 7-7-1. While the teams have not met often, the Giants are 5–2 in the L7 of the series with points averaging just a tick better than 37 per games. The last three Giants games have gone under as have three of the last four Dolphins game, the low might be a way to look.
