He never spent one day on the job. Two months after accepting the New England Patriots defensive coordinator job, Greg Schiano has designed as DC before ever spending a day on the job. Schiano has spent the last three years on the Ohio State staff until joining the Patriots after DC Brian Flores was hired as the Miami Dolphins head coach. Schiano went 11-21 coaching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers between 2011-2013 and is most well-known for his 11 year stint at Rutgers where he resurrected the long downtrodden program.
In a statement released by the team, Schiano noted that he needed to take some time and step away for the game to examine his faith and spend more time with his family. Always a favorite of Patriot head coach Bill Belechick, Schiano leaves with complete support of the team and the organization.
