JEFF ALLEN GAME PREVIEW: DENVER at CINCINNATI
Week III of the NFL features a possible AFC playoff preview as the 2-0 defending champion Denver
Broncos travel to Cincinnati to face the 1-1 Bengals. The Broncos are yet to show any Super Bowl
hangover despite becoming the first Vince Lombardi Trophy winner to return the following year with
a starting quarterback yet to start a game. Trevor Siemian has been serviceable in home wins over
Carolina and Indy but will need to be mistake free in his first road start. The Bengals are off a loss
at Pittsburgh last week and will be looking to get back on track here.
The line here opened at Cincinnati -3.5 with the over/under set at 41. Sharp money quickly took the
hook immediately moving the number to three where Vegas has moved the juice all week rather than
move off the key number. The total is up a point to 42.
Like last year, the Denver Broncos are spearheaded by the best defense in the NFL. Last week’s
final score in the win over the Colts is somewhat misleading being padded by two defensive scores.
The Broncos have held seven straight opponents to 20 points or less including the same Bengals
who they beat 20-17 in Denver last year. Siemian (three Ints) in his first start outside mile high is the
key here as he faces a pretty good Bengal defense that allowed the second least amount of points
in the NFL last year.
The Bengals are rock solid again this year and arguably have the best talent man-for-man of any 53
player roster in the league. They’re deep and very good. Andy Dalton has been been bothered by an
ankle injury but will strap it up here. “The Red Rocket” still has A.J. Green (14, 204) on the outside
but lost two of his other prime targets to free agency and All Pro Tyler is doubtful with a bum ankle.
The Bengals are surprisingly last in rushing defense allowing 138 yards per and will need to get that
fixed today against the Broncos and let Siemian beat them.
