JEFF ALLEN GAME PREVIEW: GREEN BAY at WASHINGTON
The Sunday Night Football feature might prove to be one of the best of the year as the free-falling Green Bay Packers
travel to FedEx Field in Washington D.C. to take on the streaking Redskins. Green Bay is in the unusual position of
having lost three straight games, allowing a whopping 111 points in the process. Washington is 5-1-1 in it’s last seven
games after an 0-2 start. The Packers have lost three straight road games and should have probably lost at Jacksonville in their Week Opener but they’ve won six of the last seven in the series (3-1 here) including 35-18 decision in the playoffs last year.
The line opened up at Washington -2 with the total set at 51. Skins and Under money has sent the line to Washington
-3 (even) and the total crashing to 48/48.5 in most locations. Weather could be somewhat of an issue as it will be a brisk fall evening in the nation’s capital with temperature at kickoff in the high 30’s and a 15-20 mile wind from the West will send the wind chill factor into the 20s.
It’s been hard to “RELAX” in Green Bay the last month as the Packers have been awful. The rift between Aaron Rodgers and HC Mike McCarthy appears to be very real and the time has shown little life and absolutely no spark. Green Bay has not run the ball at all since losing Eddie Lacy. They did pick up Christine Michaels on waivers from Seattle this week which might help some. The Packer wide outs seem to be slow and disinterested, The defense hit rock bottom last week in allowing 35 first half points to the Titans in the first half last week.
Washington is probably the league’s most “under-the-radar” team in the NFL. They are a complete team and a deep team as they’ve survived numerous injuries to key players. Kirk Cousins has developed into a capable game manager with the added bonus of having the big arm o get the ball downfield with accuracy. Rob Kelly and Matt Jones are capable running backs and Jordan Reed is a top three TE. The defense keeps the team in games and makes big stops when it has to.
Maybe the Packers have hit rock bottom and will respond here with their season on he line. Rodgers with three turnovers and sacked five times needs more help. The Redskins have urgency as well at 5-3-1 in the toughest division in football with a three game roadie on deck starting with Dallas on the road for a short week Thanksgiving game.
