The Portland Trailblazers won a big game Monday night in beating the Brooklyn Nets in double-overtime but at a big cost. Center Josuf Nurkic suffered a season ending injury when he landed oddly on his left leg at the 2;22 mark of the second OT and sustained compound fractures to both the tibia and fibula. Nurkic underwent successful surgery on his leg on Tuesday and is expected to recover fully but there is no timeline for his return.
The 24-year-old Bosnian big man was having a break out year for the Blazers and was a key contributor in Portland’s success. In 72 starts, Nurkic averaged 15.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game while posting a career high 36 double-doubles. He led the Blazers in rebounding 46 times and was 13th in the league in rebounding and 15th in blocked shots.
