Tour de Manning: Broncos at Rams

by Jeff Allen of Jeff Allen Sports

The Denver Broncos spent more time travelling cross-country the past few weeks than Senator Mitch Mack and his political entourage. Peyton Manning shook off the loss in New England with a 41-17 blowout win at Oakland and this week, the tour stops in the Show Me State for a meeting with the Rams. The line opened at -9 and several online sportsbooks have already moved to -9.5 but you can bet that by Sunday, NFL odds everywhere will have hit double-digits.

Teams playing their third-straight road game are on a 7-3 ATS run the past couple seasons and the favorites are 3-0 ATS; all three winning by a margin of 10 or more points. The Rams are off a 31-14 divisional road loss in Arizona last week and non-Conference home dogs of 7 to 10 points in this spot have now lost six-straight times against the number, getting outscored 33 to 13 in the process.

It’s the first home game for St. Louis since beating the Seahawks in Week 7 and this used to be a good opportunity for non-Conference dogs to dig in their heels but the times have changed. In the past, getting this many points was like finding gold but the totals were often priced between 37 and 40. The total on this game has already hit 51 and who do you think is going to be doing most of the scoring?

The Rams have gained less than 250 yards in three consecutive games and they’ve been outgained in five-straight. Denver leads the league in yards per play at 6.2 and the past 16 road faves with this kind of advantage have all won straight-up by an average of 17 points per game. The latest run shows an ATS mark of 8-1-1 and eight of the teams scored 30 or more points. We don’t see St. Louis keeping pace.
